Soie de Deux fabric sculpture fabric detail

Soie de Deux is a reworking of Albatross to incorporate a pair of colorful silk fabric forms which slowly slide and slip over each other. The fabric is moved on four thin white suspension strings driven by four computerized capstan motors mounted in a wooden crate. The fabric moves smoothly within the space in a never-ending computer-generated motion cycle which never exactly repeats. The fabric is translucent and creates ever-changing light and shadow.

Soie de Deux was shown as part of the Rossum’s shows “Robot Resolution” and “Signal:Noise Patio” for Pittsburgh First Night 2010 and the January 2010 Gallery Crawl at the Three Rivers Arts Festival Gallery at 937 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA.
